As part of its commitments formalized in its action plan equality 2020-2023, the ANR aims to actively contribute to fight gender inequalities and any other form of discrimination and to change the scientific culture towards the consideration of the sex and/or gender dimension in research projects.
These commitments are deployed in a transversal way in all the missions entrusted to the agency, in particular within the framework of its selection processes in order to fight against potential gender bias in the evaluation of projects.
In order to achieve this, several principles and actions are implemented such as the systematic search for parity in the scientific evaluation committees (CES), the training of committee chairmen, the introduction of narrative CVs to be filled in online when submitting a project, including a tab dedicated to career breaks, and the analysis of project submission and selection data.
Producing and publishing recurring analyses of these data allows for the identification of possible gender biases in the evaluation, also shows the evolution of women’s and men’s practices in terms of response to ANR calls for projects and testifies to the social gender issues that are also at work in the field of higher education and research (HRE).
