ASTERHYX | Accelerated Stress Tests for low-temperature ElectrolyseRs dedicated to HYdrogen produ(X)ction
A new project under PEPR-H2 (Programme & Équipement Prioritaire de Recherche – Hydrogène décarboné), the aim of ASTERHYX is to develop accelerated aging tests for proton exchange membrane electrolyzers (PEMWE).
Hydrogen is set to play a central role in the decarbonization of economies, with France aiming to become a leader in low-carbon hydrogen production by 2030. This transition depends on the efficiency and cost of water electrolysis processes, in particular proton exchange membrane electrolysis technology, which is highly flexible and suitable for coupling with variable energies. The ASTERHYX project responds to the need to develop sustainable, high-performance and cost-effective PEMWE electrolyzers to meet the growing demand for hydrogen. The project focuses on the development of accelerated aging test (AAT) protocols, representative of aging under industrial conditions. These protocols will enable manufacturers to assess the lifetimes of their systems, define warranties, and thus accelerate their time-to-market.
