You are currently viewing NaFQuAir: What Impact Do River Vessels Have on Air Quality?

River cruise and cargo ships emit fine and ultrafine particles that can affect air quality, both on board the vessels and in urban and port areas.

Supported by ADEME as part of the 2024 call for research projects under the AQACIA program (Improving Air Quality: Understand, Innovate, Act), the NaFQuAir (Inland Waterway Navigation and Air Quality) project is coordinated by LEMTA. It aims to better understand the dispersion of these particles, assess the exposure of passengers and nearby residents, and formulate operational recommendations to reduce exposure to pollutants for operators and nearby residents, thereby guiding urban and port planning.
