The Lorraine Fab Living Lab (LF2L) has acquired a new 3D printer: the Gigabot X. A first in Europe that was made possible thanks to ERPI’s involvement in the European project INEDIT (Grant agreement ID: 869952). This project focuses on the development of 3D printing of furniture from recycled plastic.

This open-source 3D printer manufactured by the American company RE3D is the first to be installed in Europe. Where other printers only use plastic filaments, the Gigabot X uses granules as raw material. It thus makes it possible to increase the types of materials that can be used, from PLA to pellets made from recycled and crushed plastic.
Thanks to this innovation, it is no longer necessary to produce plastic and it becomes possible to recycle waste to make new objects.
The INEDIT project focuses on the furniture needs of SMEs and industrialists. However, its concept of Do it together makes it possible to envisage a future accessibility to individuals.
