Thanks to the joint support of Choose France for Science, the Grand Est Region, and the Lorraine Initiative of Excellence, the University of Lorraine will welcome Valentina Sierra Jimenez, a specialist in molecular modeling and carbon-based materials derived from biomass, to the LRGP (CNRS-University of Lorraine). Coming from Washington State University, her arrival illustrates the University of Lorraine’s strong commitment to supporting researchers whose work is undermined by unstable political contexts. Valentina develops innovative approaches combining experimentation, multi-scale simulations, and artificial intelligence. Her work, focused on biochars and their applications for decarbonization, is at the heart of the challenges of energy transition, the circular bioeconomy, and the environment (water and gas depollution).
