This platform is dedicated to the valorization of wood and other lignocellulosic biomasses (straw, bark, etc.) by physico-chemical processes (hydrolysis, organosolve treatment, steam explosion, torrefaction, pyrolysis, liquefaction, etc.). The goal is the thermo-physical-chemical deconstruction of biomass for the production of materials, polymers and molecules or energy. The flagship equipments of this platform are:
a complete characterization of biomasses (ashes, macromolecules, volatiles, etc.) and their shaping (grinding, granulation, etc.)
a unique prototype of steam explosion at laboratory scale;
a high-pressure reactor assembly (up to 200 Bar of hydrogen), batch and continuous, for the study of biomass depolymerization and hydrogenation, with in-situ analysis;
pyrolysis and pilot gasification reactors up to 50 kg/hour;
a set of analysers unique in Europe for the analysis of liquids and gases: liquid (including semi-preparative) and gas chromatography, numerous mass spectrometers including a unique laser photoionisation spectrometer.
Hydrotreatment and depolymerization platform
