Industrial fires represent a significant risk, as they can have serious consequences beyond the perimeter of the site in question, both for the population and for the surrounding natural environment. The fire that occurred at the Lubrizol plant in Rouen in 2019 highlighted the lack of anticipation in the face of these industrial risks. This is the challenge of the Fireplume project – Emergency digital simulation of fire plumes, from source identification to dispersion – whose primary objective is to know everything that could endanger an industrial fire. Led by the CORIA laboratory in Rouen, this project brings together LEMTA, INERIS and the SPE of the University of Corsica. Its aim is to define the polluting agents in an industrial fire and to study their dispersion in the atmosphere.
