The ATHENA (Advanced THermal ENergy Absorption) project is one of five new projects selected from the PEPR SPLEEN 2024 call for expressions of interest for the decarbonization of industry.
Faced with global demand for air conditioning, electricity consumption and CO2 emissions continue to rise. ATHENA offers a promising alternative: an ammonia/water absorption chiller enhanced by the integration of an innovative ejector, increasing performance even in hot environments, in order to better adapt to climate change.
This project aims to develop a high-performance prototype (5-10 kWth) with a TRL4 maturity level, paving the way for more efficient and environmentally friendly cooling solutions using renewable or waste heat sources.
