LRGP – 4D printing, between promises and realities

20/05/2021 @ 10 h 00 min - 12 h 00 min

Due to the current health context and the impossibility to organize our traditional J3P (Product Process Promotion Days) in person, we have decided to offer you remote We3P (Product Process Promotion Webinars). These short webinars will cover the same topics as the J3P but from a new angle.

We invite you to participate to our 1st We3P webinar
Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, entitled :
4D printing, between promises and realities

Program
10h00 – Introduction, Samuel Kenzari, IJL, Nancy
10h15 – 4D printing between upstream and downstream piloting, Jean-Claude André, LRGP, Nancy
11h00 – 4D metal printing, Paul Lohmuller, IJL and LEM3, Nancy
11h45 – Conclusion of the webinar

Abstract

Making a 3D object active (movements and change of functionalities) is an exciting promise to realize drug carriers, actuators, “soft” robots, waterproof or color changing clothes, active facades, adaptive vehicles, etc. In short, it is about making a 3D object active. In short, it is at least a question of abolishing traditional assemblies! This disruptive demand translates into a doubling of the market every 17 months (as do publications). With more than 70 applications already envisaged, it is necessary to play tightly between scientific research (between 3D printing, activatable or intelligent materials and energy stimulation processes) on the one hand and “learned tinkering” for the design of industrializable artifacts (complexity obliges) on the other. As things are moving everywhere, in a Brownian way, we thought it would be useful to put these different vertical and horizontal elements on the table in order to act and succeed in reaching the public in a robust way in the short term.
