Student of the Lycée Henri Poincaré in Nancy, he joined the ENSIC in 1969 and became member of the class of 72. He began his thesis under the direction of Pierre Legoff at the Physical Kinetics Center in Villers les Nancy, directed at the time by Pierre Legoff.

He joined the Laboratory of Chemical Engineering Sciences on the ENSIC site, with the whole electrochemistry team, when the LSGC was created in 1975. He defended his state thesis in February 1977 on “Influence of transported solid particles and macromolecules on fluid-wall matter transfer. Application to electrochemistry.”
